THE #METOO PROJECT

in partnership with

BAWAR (Bay Area

Women Against Rape)

What is The #MeToo Project?

The #MeToo Project is aimed towards supporting those who have experienced sexual abuse and/or rape in the Bay Area.

All funds go to BAWAR, the first rape crisis center in the country. It was founded with the two-part goal of establishing a place where  survivors of sexual violence could receive the quality counseling and advocacy they need, and to provide community education around these issues.

Unlike most projects under The Uplift Series, too often men go through these same horrific experiences. Although their name is Bay Area Women Against Rape, they serve anyone affected by sexual violence. BAWAR defines sexual violence by the narratives of the survivors who experienced the violence. They are here to believe and validate the community they serve in a trauma-informed, culturally appropriate and accessible way.

Their services include but are not limited to:

  • a 24-hour crisis line for survivors of sexual violence and their support people (English and Spanish)

  • 24-hour on call service for hospital and police report accompaniments

  • Court accompaniments

  • Peer counseling (English and Spanish)

  • Clinical counseling

  • Support groups

  • Training for police, medical personnel, teachers/school administrators, community organizations, etc.

  • Community outreach

  • Latinx program

  • Sexually Exploited Minors and At-Risk Youth program

  • LGBTQIA+ program

All of their services are free and confidential.
